A letter which was addressed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington. In the letter, Apple said Machine learning is the future as it makes products and services smarter.
Due to this fact, the “company is investing heavily in the learning of machine learning and automation. Apple is also excited about the automation of machines in many areas, especially in the transit sector”. The comment made by Apple was in response to Proposed ‘Federal Automated Vehicles Policy’ and it was published on November 22.

It is rumored that Apple self driving car could have a semblance to a minivan, according to initial reports on the design. Self Driving Cars – Apple On Data Collection And Sharing
An Apple spokesman said that the letter, which was addressed to the ‘National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’ (NHTSA) was as a result of the heavy investment in machine learning and autonomous system and it wanted to keep manufacturers that are also focusing on self driving vehicles.
There is a need to share data with other car manufacturers in order for the system to be in order. In the five-page letter according to BBC, Steve Kenner (Apple’s director of product integrity) said regulators should not introduce too many rules on the testing of self driving cars. The data share will make things easy for the producers and keep various car makers or manufacturers on par in terms of information regarding the self driving cars. He also said, “established car manufacturers and new car manufacturers should be treated equally”.
In the letter, Apple indicated that data of crashes and near-misses of self-driving cars should be shared among car manufacturers, so as to improve on the self driving cars and build better systems. However, the individual’s privacy should not be compromised by sharing of such data.
Based on the comments made by Ford, they will have self-driving cars by 2021. It seems not too far since the year is just around the corner. Already Google is testing self driving cars on the roads.
